Mailchimp has always been about email marketing. The clue is in the name.

…but for the business to grow and expand, they realised that they couldn’t just do email, they had to offer related services that would benefit their customers.

One of the first additional tools Mailchimp launched was Landing Pages, which first appeared in late 2017.

Although pretty basic, these landing pages could be used to easily create a single page website, within Mailchimp, which could, if required, have a form included to capture signup.

Initially, there were some ‘short-comings’, but some of those have been addressed. If you’re looking for a quick, easy and free way to create a single sign-up page, or in fact, any sort of page and you know what you’re doing, they’re a great answer.

…but many people don’t know about them, what they can do and why they are so useful.

So, here’s a quick guide to the common questions I get asked all the time about Mailchimp Landing Pages

What Are Mailchimp Landing Pages?

Simply put, a Mailchimp Landing Page is a one page website that you create in Mailchimp.

Mailchimp host it and give it a web address (a URL), which you can then share with other people, so they can visit the page. And, if you add a form to the page, they can complete that to be added to an audience in Mailchimp.

Are Mailchimp Landing Pages Free?

Yes!

One of the main attractions of Mailchimp is that lots of it is “free”. Although a few changes were made in mid 2019, the fact you can use it without paying is a huge attraction for new businesses starting with email marketing.

Mailchimp landing pages are part of the free package, so you can use them when you sign up to a free account.

How Do Mailchimp Landing Pages Work?

A Mailchimp Landing Page is just a webpage like any other, but you build it and ‘host it’ (i.e. it’s stored) within Mailchimp.

If you’ve got a website and a web address (a URL), it’s just like that, but instead of having the page stored on your own system, Mailchimp holds it.

…and Mailchimp gives you a web address which can be shared with other people.

This web address usually starts with https://mailchi.mp/ and then has a random set of characters and then your own text (unless you create a sub-domain).

Nowadays, people don’t worry about the web address as much as they did in the past, in fact, people will “click” onto a link and not even see the web address in most cases, so you don’t need to worry about the URL starting with mailchimp.

Do I Have To Have A Mailchimp Web Address?

No… If you want to “brand the URL” so that it doesn’t start with Mailchimp, it’s pretty easy to create a branded sub-domain, which can use your own domain as part of the full name.

So if your domain was https://www.chimpsaregreat.com, you could create a subdomain of https://pages.chimpsaregreat.com and then add your page descriptor after.

This is good for places where you can’t fully hide the URL behind some text, and is especially good for things like Google or Facebook Ads.

Then once you’ve designed the page, checked it works, you publish it and can share the URL to others.

It does require you setting up a sub-domain in your own hosting account, so if you’re not sure about it, speak to your IT geek, or speak to the people who host your domain who will point you in the right direction.

Where Are Mailchimp Landing Pages Hosted?

When you create a Mailchimp Landing Page it’s hosted by Mailchimp and is on their server. Therefore you don’t need to add it to your own website, or try and embed it there.

…and even if you create a subdomain for your pages (which I’d recommend), it’s still hosted in Mailchimp, with the subdomain just “hiding” the real address.

How Do You Embed A Mailchimp Landing Page In WordPress (Shopify, Or Any Website)

You can’t. Mailchimp Landing Pages are stand alone webpages held in Mailchimp. They are not meant to be added or embedded into WordPress, Shopify or any Website, but you can link to them easily, just as you would link to any other website from your WordPress website.

Are Mailchimp Landing Pages Good?

Yes. There are lots of tools to create landing pages on the internet, and although Mailchimp doesn’t have as much of the “cool” stuff, you can still create great looking landing pages using their tool – and it’s part of the free level!

Once you understand how to create a good landing page (which is not really about the technology and is more about the words that you use/the content it contains), they become really handy.

One of the key benefits are that they allow marketers to very quickly create webpages to push out to the market, without the need to jump through hoops with web designers and creatives.

You can design and create a page quickly, test it, and then put it out to market to see how effective it is – and then easily change it/duplicate it when you need to.

This ability for Marketers to ‘do their own thing’ without the need to pay for/manage a web-designer (and the hoops you sometimes need to jump through) is a big attraction.

…so although not being the best and most powerful tool on the market to create Landing Pages, they are something that’s pretty easy to access and use to supercharge your marketing – and they come at no extra cost.

How To Use A Mailchimp Landing Page?

Mailchimp Landing Pages are very easy to use… but you need to have an idea of how you are going to use them in your business… here are some ideas:

  • Use it to replace Mailchimp’s hosted signup form – each audience in Mailchimp has a “hosted form” which you can use for signups… but they don’t look great – using a Mailchimp Landing Page with a form gives you much more flexibility in how it can look.
  • Create a thank you page – when someone signs up to receive your emails, they’re interested in you… so why not give them something good to read when they click the subscribe button? A nice “Thank you page” which directs them to some other good stuff, but also “thanks them” and tells them what to expect next is a great asset to your marketing.
  • Create a unique web page linked to a marketing campaign that you are doing – so that when people visit it, it’s directly relevant to the campaign (and not your home page – you should never drive people to your homepage in a marketing campaign), add a signup form and you’ve got a nice slick process.
  • As a sign-up page for a specific carrot – If you want someone to join your audience, then offering an incentive (or a carrot) is a great way of encouraging someone to do so. Using a Mailchimp Landing Page gives you the ability to “sell” the carrot easily.

These are just some of the great ways that you could use a Mailchimp Landing Page, but there are countless other ways…Use the comment box below and let us know how you use them (and show us your page!)

Wrapping Up

Everyone knows Mailchimp for its email marketing, but with Mailchimp Landing Pages, it’s really expanded the benefits you can get when you market your small business.

They are available to everyone on the free account, quick and easy to set up, and give you the ability to build stuff yourself without having to jump through hoops with a web designer.

If you need to create a quick “one pager”, whether it’s for a promotion, an event, or as a thank-you page, then you should be thinking about using a Mailchimp Landing Pages.
